Privacy Policy
What the RVA Weather Network collects, why we collect it, and how you stay in control of your information.
Last updated October 15, 2026
Overview
The RVA Weather Network is an independent, hyperlocal weather hub for Richmond, Virginia. We keep this policy deliberately short and readable. By using the site you agree to the practices described here.
What we collect
- Email address (newsletter). If you subscribe to the RVA Weather Brief, we store your email address, when you subscribed, and the page or campaign you arrived from. We use it only to send the newsletter and related service emails (verification, reminders). Email delivery is handled by a third-party email service (Resend), which processes addresses solely to deliver our mail.
- Anonymous visitor identifiers. Your browser stores a random ID in local storage so we can count unique visitors, page views, reactions, interest votes, and reading engagement — without knowing who you are. These identifiers are not linked to your name, email, or any account.
- Content you submit. If you post a local weather observation, submit an outdoor event, leave a comment, or send a message through a form, we store what you type, plus anything you choose to include (an optional display name, photo, or contact email). Submissions may be shown publicly after review.
- Email engagement data. To keep the newsletter healthy we track whether emails were delivered, opened, or clicked, and whether they bounced. This helps us remove invalid addresses and understand which topics readers care about.
- Technical logs. Like virtually every website, our hosting infrastructure records basic request data (such as IP address and browser type) for security and abuse prevention.
What we don't do
- We don't sell, rent, or trade your email address or any other personal information.
- We don't require an account or collect your identity to read forecasts, observations, or events.
- We don't use advertising trackers or share your data with ad networks.
Newsletter choices
Every newsletter includes a one-click unsubscribe link that works immediately. You can also unsubscribe through the newsletter page. Unsubscribing removes you from future sends; we keep your address on a suppression list so we don't email you again by accident.
Data retention & security
Subscriber and engagement records are kept only as long as they're useful for operating the newsletter and are protected with industry-standard controls. Community submissions you delete, or that are removed during moderation, are permanently deleted from our systems.
Your rights
You can request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Contact us through the contact form on our About page and we'll respond promptly.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle personal information, we'll update this page and the date above.
