Evening & Overnight: Clear, Crisp & Comfortable

Quiet weather will settle across the Richmond metro area this evening. After a pleasant late-July afternoon with highs in the mid-80s and low dewpoints in the 50s, mostly clear skies will prevail overnight. Breezy northwest winds will diminish and become light and variable, allowing temperatures to drop into the mid-to-upper 60s.

Friday – Saturday: Drier Air Holds Strong

Comfortable summer weather continues through the end of the workweek and the start of the weekend:

Friday: Expect plentiful sunshine with high temperatures near 88–90°F. Dewpoints remain pleasantly low with light winds shifting from northwest to east/southeast.

Saturday: High pressure slides offshore, bringing a return of southerly flow. Highs will top out in the upper 80s to near 90°F. While mostly dry conditions persist, humidity levels will begin to creep up by late afternoon.

Sunday – Early Next Week: Deep Tropical Moisture & Storm Risks

A typical, unsettled summertime pattern returns by Sunday afternoon as an upper-level trough approaches from the west.

Moisture Surge: Rich Gulf moisture will spread over Central Virginia, surging precipitable water (PW) values from a dry 1.0–1.4" on Saturday to a very humid 2.2–2.4" by late Sunday and Monday.

Showers & Thunderstorms: Scattered afternoon and evening storms develop Sunday (highest chances inland toward RVA). Widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected across the area on Monday.

Localized Flooding Threat: Severe weather is not expected to be widespread due to weak atmospheric flow. However, slow-moving storms with heavy downpours will pose a localized threat of flash flooding each afternoon.

Temperatures: Cloud cover and repeated rain rounds will keep daytime highs slightly below average (low 80s) through early next week.

Aviation & Travel Outlook

Aviation: VFR conditions prevail through Saturday. Sub-VFR ceilings and reduced visibility are expected periodically from Sunday afternoon through Monday due to heavy downpours and thunderstorms.
